Toshiba TG01 is the first smartphone that came to the market with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 1GHz processor inside. The handset was launched in a series of European markets in July, and its maker says that it has seen strong demand in the UK, Spain, France, Germany and Italy. Based on this, the computer maker has also launched it in Taiwan, and is rumored to plan on bringing it to the US market via wireless carrier Verizon.

The high-end mobile phone comes to the market with Microsoft's Windows Mobile operating system on board. Launched initially with Windows Mobile 6.1, the company has also released a WinMo 6.5-based version on the market, and delivered an update to the new OS flavor for the older model. Featuring a large touchscreen display and the powerful processor, the device might see strong demand in the new markets as well.

According to Yasahiro Yamada, general manager for overseas sales and marketing, Toshiba Mobile Communications, the company also aims at expanding its handset offering with new models during the next year, among which we might see models featuring QWERTY keyboards, as well as multimedia-centric devices. The Toshiba TG01 has been brought to Taiwan with a suggested retail price of NT$20,900 (US$647). No details on whether the device will be included in the offering of a carrier in the country have emerged so far, though more info on it might surface in the near future. Especially since the handset is also expected to make an appearance on the US market on the airwaves of Verizon.

As a recent post on phone Arena reveals, the carrier might launch a CDMA version of the mobile phone, and it might not be too long before it does so. The TG01 has already received FCC approval, and one should expect Big Red to soon add yet another high-end device to its offering. In case the Palm Pre and the iPhone are also on their way to the carrier, its users will have a great deal of reasons to rejoice, that's for sure.
