Bollyood and Hollywood movie lovers, take note! Toshiba has started hitting the US retailers' shelves. Toshiba's HD-A20 joins the existing Toshiba DVD line-up which includes the entry level HD-A2 and the top of the line, HD-XA2. This expanded line of products offers enhanced functionalities of the HD DVD format and is the result of Toshiba's effort to make a smooth transition to the next level of high-definition entertainment.

The HD-A2, HD-A20 and HD-XA2 are all backward compatible, so you can continue enjoying your library of current DVD and CD software. It offers HDMI 1.2 and 1080 output, but - compared to the HD-XA2 - it lacks video enhancements like deep color support and additional connections like RS-232. That makes it fit somewhere in the middle of Toshiba's trio of HD DVD players.

Like all of Toshiba's High Definition DVD players, the HD-A20 features interactive capabilities and an Ethernet port to support networking. If you play a network-enabled HD DVD, you can download content like streaming audio commentary, new audio languages and new HD trailers.

Toshiba is shipping the HD-A20 to retailers with a MSRP of a cent short of 500$ but you can also buy it online for a smaller price. You can also choose to buy the HD A2 from Amazon for just 309$ (Free shipping). More than 70 new Toshiba HD DVD titles are scheduled to be released until July 2007, but that won't stop Blu-ray getting out their BD-J live in October.
