It appears that makers of consumer electronics can always come up with some new and unusual device, even if said product is unique from just one point of view, and Toshiba's newest speaker definitely qualifies.
Even with CeBIT 2011 underway, there doesn't seem to be an overly high level of activity in terms of new product releases on the IT market.
Still, the opposite cannot be said either, as proven fairly well by the likes of ASUS, whose latest press release revealed a
Blu-ray drive, a
Blu-ray 3D player and even
noise canceling headphones.
Now, Toshiba has stepped in from far away Japan and
presented its own audio product, only this one is fairly different from what one may expect.
Basically, the company did not focus solely on delivering a high quality audio experience, as makers of such devices like to put it.
What the outfit was more focused on was providing it with a high level of endurance, especially protection from water, to the point where it can be used in the shower or in the rain.
The product in question is dubbed TY-WSD9 and can be described as a multifunction speaker, though the term is loosely used here considering that there are, in fact, a pair of 1.2W speakers present inside it.
The IPX4 waterproof design is responsible for the above mentioned ability to survive in humid/wet/soaked environments, but it is not the only asset.
What users will no doubt find most useful is the ability to stream form virtually any kind of audio source, like a DAP, iPod, DVD player, even a TV.
What's more, there is even a one-way voice mode, which one may use, when near the transmitter, to call the person close to the receiver.
Set to bear the price of 13,000 Yen, the Toshiba TY-WSD9 is expected to begin shipping sometime during the Middle of March.
