Ever since the official introduction of AMD's Fusion APU, it's been “raining” portable computing systems built on this platform over at CES 2011, and now it's time for Toshiba to introduce its own Fusion-powered notebook, the Satellite C655D.

The Satellite C655D features Toshiba’s trademark, durable Trax textured finish in Black that helps resist fingerprints, which is an extremely important feature, as far as we're concerned.

Plus, the device sports a 15.6-inch diagonal HD TruBrite display, which fully leverages the DirectX11 graphics provided by the AMD E Series APU (although it's safer not to expect anything more than casual gaming out of this thing).

The notebook features a 10-key keypad, as well as the standard set of networking and connectivity options, including built-in high-speed Wireless-N connectivity, plus a good deal of storage on the side (although Toshiba doesn't really point out the specific amount of storage).

Additional components worth mentioning include a DVD SuperMulti drive, a multi-touch touch pad and a built-in webcam, which, nevertheless, are not exactly something extraordinary, at least as far as modern notebooks are concerned.

“The new AMD E Series APU brings a whole new level of performance and versatility into a full-size laptop over a netbook, giving families, students and home-based businesses the power they need to stay productive and entertained at very affordable prices,” said Carl Pinto, vice president of product development, Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc., Digital Products Division.

“Toshiba’s continued strategic relationship with industry leaders like AMD allows us to deliver more affordable PCs without sacrificing performance,” Mr. Pinto added.

Luckily, those of you who're genuinely interested in getting one of these portable computing systems won't have to wait too much for it, since the Satellite C655D will be available across the US on January 23, 2011, starting at $398.99 MSRP.
