Earlier this week, Toshiba announced a new addition to its growing line of ultra-portable, low-power netbook systems, with the introduction of the 10-inch Dynabook UX. The new model was specifically released for the Japanese market, but the company has decided to also announce a European version of the new netbook, which is why it has just released the NB200, a follow-up to its first model, the 8.9-inch NB100. The technical specifications on the new netbook are similar to those of the Dynabook UX, while market availability is expected to start in May, this year.

According to Toshiba UK, the NB200 is powered by Intel's latest N280 Atom processor, running at 1.66GHz. However, despite the option for the new CPU model, the system is built on the older 945GSE chipset, which also enables support for Intel's Atom N270 processor. The integrated graphics are ready to provide the 10-inch display with support for a maximum resolution of 1024 by 600 pixels.

Additional features of the NB200 include an integrated WiFi b/g and Bluetooth wireless connection, optional 3G mobile broadband, a VGA webcam, three USB 2.0 ports and a 160GB hard drive featuring integrated 3D accelerometer. One of the more impressive features on the NB200 is its optional 9-cell battery, which is said to be capable of providing the end-user with as much as nine hours of runtime. The standard model, however, comes with just a 3-cell variant that is good for up to four hours of battery life.

Overall, the new netbook from Toshiba appears to be on the right track to compete with similar systems in its class but delivers an improved exterior design, compared to the company's first attempt at the netbook market. Price-wise, you are looking at a netbook that is slated to become available in May for a starting price of £319, or US$465.
