Two new configurations are now available for the F45 entertainment notebook series. Sporting an HD DVD drive (supporting normal and dual-layer DVD playing as well) and HDMI port, the AV412 model has the advantage of high definition support over its little brother AV410. There are not many differences between the AV412 and AV410, as the basic components are the same.

What AV410 has over AV412 is a pair of high quality Harmon Kardon speakers, with integrated subwoofer and thus AV410 takes the lead in the audio race. At the same time Toshiba AV410 is not exactly a full fledge Santa Rosa based Centrino notebook as it is missing the new generation Intel Core 2 Duo processor, being equipped only with a Napa based one, with a frontside bus running at 667MHz and a frequency of 1.6GHz. On the other hand, AV412 is much more powerful, as it comes with the better Intel Core 2 Duo model T7100 processor, running at 1.8GHz, with 2MB level 2 cache and a frontside bus of 800MHz.

Intel Turbo Memory( 1Gb present) is also used, ITM is basically a flash memory (NAND based) that serves as a cache to reduce boot and application load times, because boot needed files and portions of the most frequently used applications are stored there. At the RAM chapter, both notebooks are doing great as they are using 2048MB of PC2-5300 DDR2 memory, packed into two slots. The display screen is common to the two notebooks, as Toshiba choose a 15.4 inch widescreen. The graphics chips is not really top of the line, Mobile Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100 has 8MB of dedicated memory and can share a further 256MB from the system's memory. AV410 comes with a 200GB hard drive, while AV412 has a bigger 250GB version, both SATA based and spinning at 4200 rpm. When it comes to connectivity, AV410 and AV412 are equally equipped with Intel Wireless WiFi Link, which works in the 802.11 a/g/n standard.

All in all, the Qosmio F45 new additions are definitively well suited for the role of digital media notebook, more so since they come with a built-in webcam and microphone. The case finish is aesthetically stylish with a chassis painted in Cosmic Black, white keyboard and central fingerprint reader for increased security.
