They are called Exceria Pro Series and are the fastest in the world

CompactFlash cards have been the fastest type of memory cards ever since they first came out, and they aren't even the oldest sort. Toshiba turned things all the way up to 11 with the Exceria Pro though. Having a product that can be called world's best, fastest, or any other epithet is something that IT companies, and any other corporations for that matter, always like.

Toshiba must be feeling quite smug now. Its Exceria Pro series of CompactFlash memory cards can transfer data at 160 MB/s.

That is to say, the maximum read speed is of 160 MB/s, and the writing speed is just one small step below, of 150 MB/s.

The write rate depends on capacity though. Exceria Pro comes in 16 GB, 32 GB and 64 GB.

The 64 GB card works at the rates mentioned above, but the other two, while they manage to read at 160 MB/s, can only write at 95 MB/s.

Of course, that is still a very high speed, so owners of DSLR cameras will not regret too much if they can't afford the 64 GB card.

Toshiba's new memory cards are compatible with the CompactFlash Association (CFA) standard CompactFlash Specification Revision 6.1.

They also support the UDMA7 high speed interface, which is the primary reason for all the above.

Full HD video movie recording will be an easy thing and, perhaps more importantly, even 4K resolution movie recording will work well.

Finally, the “Video Performance Guarantee Profile 2” standard secures Full HD video capture streams at a minimum write speed of 65MB/s no matter the host devices and recording media.

Unfortunately, the company's press release held no information on pricing or availability. Hopefully, retailers will begin listing the cards soon. If the market for DSLR is really going to grow 50% between 2012 and 2015, the need for storage will only increase.
