Toshiba will probably unveil the tablet at IFA 2014 in Berlin

Toshiba has recently launched the Encore 2 tablet which runs Microsoft’s Windows 8.1 with Bing and is marketed as being a super affordable productive solution.

But while the Android ecosystem is concerned, Toshiba has yet to make an impact. That might change soon enough because, as Tablets Magazine reports, the company seems to be working towards bringing out the second gen of their forsaken Excite tablets.

Since Toshiba launched the Excite lineup at IFA 2013, we might as well assume that the new version is coming at the same event next month.

The Excite family consists of three models. First stop, the Excite Pure takes advantage of a Tegra 3 processor and boasts a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels, while the Excite Pro will run on a Tegra 4 and offer the advanced 2,560 x 1,600 res.

Last but not least, the Excite Write has the same high-end specs as the Excite Pro, but also offers digitizer support and comes with a smart pen so users can write on it.

All three tablets come with stereo speakers, USB ports, HDMI and will ship with either 16GB or 32GB of internal storage. The default operating system is Android 4.2 Jelly Bean.

Now a Toshiba tablet going by model number AT10-B shopped up on the Wi-Fi Alliance website. Since the first-generation Excite Pure slate was known as AT10-A, the presence of “B” might indicate Toshiba has something up its sleeve.

For the time being, we can’t tell you the exact specifications of the device apart from the fact the tablet runs Android 4.4 KitKat, as it is natural for a tablet that is launching in today's ecosystem.

Toshiba isn’t really known to be a company quick to provide soft updates, so having the tablet arrive in the world with Android 4.4 KitKat from the get-go is a good thing. Another aspect that can be spotted in the documents is that the tablet has Wi-Fi a/b/g/n.

At this point, we can only speculate on what could be the improvements the second-gen Android Excite Pure tablet will bring about.

Since the company seems to like doing business with NVIDIA and implemented Tegra processors with its earlier models, we could see the Excite 2 lineup be powered by the NVIDIA Tegra K1 chip (or at least the high-end model, if one such model exists.).

Other than that, the low-end model (Excite Pure) might be updated to FHD and the company could cut down on bulk with the new version.
