Looks like Toshiba is trying to create a projector far more full-featured than Epson's latest developments. If it has succeeded or not in its quest, this is up to you to decide.

Toshiba's latest projector, the TDP-T45U DLP (digital light processing), comes in a lightweight and mobile version, featuring only 6.6 pounds, and can be used out of the box, as it includes a fully loaded remote control for professional presentations. All you have to do is just plug it.

The mobile projector targets the small-to-medium businesses, educators, mobile presenters, video gamers, and weekend movie and sports enthusiasts and sports a wide range of multimedia capabilities and connectivity options such as two computer inputs, composite-video, dual component and S-video inputs, as well as audio in and variable output capabilities. The unit also includes a 1-watt speaker for enhanced multimedia sound.

The most important features are the 2,500 ANSI lumens, and the razor-sharp contrast ratio of 2000:1, usually featured by the next generation LCD TVs. But also the resolution is an advanced one, coming at XGA 1024 x 768 pixels.

"The high brightness, multimedia connectivity options and light weight make the TDP-T45U flexible enough for both professional presentations on the road and stunning digital entertainment at home for an affordable price," said Sam Malik, director of projector sales and marketing, Toshiba Digital Products Division.

A special monitor output connector enables you to view presentations from an external display, in addition to what is projected on the screen and to turn to your audience, rather than turning around to read slides as they appear on the screen.

The Toshiba TDP-T45U will be available in retail stores in late September and is available for order through Toshiba's enterprise sales team, authorized distributors and resellers at an estimated price of $1,1991.
