Toshiba has just updated the firmware for their BDX6400K Symbio 3D Blu-ray player. Unfortunately, version 0.57 comes without any release notes.

In fact, the archive contains just the files necessary for the update but not the guide for the installation procedure. In order to make it easy for you, the step-by-step firmware flashing instructions are as follows.

First of all, prepare a USB flash drive and format it with the “FAT” file system. On it, create a folder named “UPG_ALL” and, inside of it, copy the contents of the archive you will download at the link below.

Turn your Blu-ray player on and make sure you remove all the discs from it. Turn on the TV to which the device is connected.

Plug in your USB drive and, using the remote control, go to the “Settings” menu, then select “System.” In the next screen select “Upgrade” and then “USB Storage.” The BD player will search the flash drive for valid firmware update files and, when it finds them, press “OK” to start the installation.

It is very important not to power off, press any key on the remote control or remove USB drive until the update is complete.

A message will be displayed on the screen when the process is done. At this moment, the disc tray may eject and the unit may power cycle.

Remove the flash drive from the device and unplug it for a few minutes. It is recommended that you format the USB stick after you complete the installation process.

The new firmware is available for download at the link below. Install it and stay “updated one minute ago.”
