Toshiba has announced a new update to its upcoming Satellite and Satellite Pro machines based on Intel's Centrino 2 platform. However, it seems that the PC vendor rushed in showing the world the next generation of notebooks, because Intel has not finished yet revamping the ex-Montevina platform.

According to the company, the refurbished Satellite family comes with a glossy black finish and a slim-line chassis designs. The notebooks also feature textured palm rest and super-smooth touchpad that contrasts with the metallic mouse buttons. The new computers will also feature a TruBrite display and a quick launch multimedia bar, with "feather-touch" buttons and soft glow LED lighting, to give users better control over the notebooks' multimedia features.

Toshiba also mentioned that the upcoming Centrino 2-based laptop PCs will sport up to 640 GB of hard-disk storage space and dual hard-drive support for users who demand additional storage space. The multimedia features will get a boost with the built-in Harmon Kardon speakers and Dolby Sound Room technology for a fully-fledged audio experience.

However, there is no word on the actual hardware configuration. This is understandable, as Toshiba's hands are tied until Intel officially introduces the Centrino 2 platform to the market, which will not happen too soon. It's impossible to know whether Toshiba wanted to tease its users and give them a taste of the upcoming technology or it wanted to ensure that its regular customers will get into the line and refuse the competition's existing technology.

It's highly unlikely though that the company will trick the users into dreaming about a product showing off just its shape and a bunch of glittering multimedia keys. The manufacturer announced that the satellite line-up will be comprised of the A300, P300 and U400 notebook, coming with 15.4-, 17- and 13.3-inch LCD display screens. The systems will also come with AMD processors as well as Intel counterparts and with ATI Mobility Radeon graphics chips.

Now we know what children feel when they find out the stashed Christmas presents, but they have to wait until the Christmas Eve to tear the wraps apart.
