Toshiba may not have yet started selling the Excite AT200 tablet anywhere in the world, but the company did however confirm a short while ago that its ultra-thin creation will arrive in Australia in early February with a starting price of A$579 ($607 US or 467 EUR).

For this much money users will get the 16GB version of the AT200, while the 32GB model hasn’t been priced yet.

Meant to become a premium Android tablet, the 7.7mm (0.3 inches) thick Excite AT200 is the slimmest 10.1-inch slate around and is powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core TI OMAP 4430 Cortex A9 SoC paired together with 1GB of LPDDR2 RAM.

A 5MP rear-facing camera and a 2MP front-facing snapper are also installed while connectivity options include Micro HDMI, Micro USB, WiFi and Bluetooth.

As most other 10.1-inch Android tablets, the Excite AT200’s display has a resolution of 1280x800 and also offers 178-degree viewing angles.

According to Toshiba, the built-in battery pack can provide up to eight hours of running time, but despite the large battery the Excite AT200 weights just 1.18 pounds (535g).

“We all want to look good on the move, but without compromising on the power or technology at our fingertips,” said Justin White, Product Marketing Manager, Toshiba Australia.

“This smart and stylish Tablet is perfect for trendsetters on the move. Super thin yet extremely powerful, you can do anything from emailing on the fly to watching movies in HD or keeping up with the latest videos on You Tube.

“There is strong music and video playback quality even in really noisy surroundings,” concluded the company’s rep.

Initially, Toshiba’s tablet will run the 3.2 version of the Android OS, also known as Honeycomb, but an Android 4.0 ICS update should arrive soon after its launch.
