Since the so-called back-to-school period is now upon the world, computer makers are busily updating their respective product lines, and Toshiba Europe has now increased its number of Satellite Pro mobile computers by two, namely the Calpella-based Pro L670-172 and Satellite Pro S500-131.

In order to have its newcomers cope with the supposedly weak economy in Europe, Toshiba seems to have went for a value-oriented approach when it designed its new devices.

On the other hand, it still threw in high enough performance capabilities in order to meet the requirements of office and most multimedia tasks.

The Satellite Pro S500-131 is the less powerful of the two and has an LED-backlit display with a screen size of 15.6 inches and a native resolution of 1,366 x 768 pixels, as well as a 16:9 aspect ratio.

The notebook has an Intel Core i3-350M (2.26 GHz) central processing unit at its heart, backed up by 2GB of DDR2 memory and a 320GB hard disk drive.

The product also features integrated graphics (obviously), a DVD writer, LAN, 802.11 b/g/n WiFi and a battery life of up to 4 hours.

The second notebook, L670-172, is similar to its sibling in several ways, the CPU being one of the identical elements, but is the more competent of the duo.

Its display has a size of 17.3 inches, a native resolution of 1,600 x 900 pixels and is handled by the same integrated graphics.

The Core i3-350M CPU is paired with 4GB of RAM and the same 320GB HDD and DVD writer.

As for connectivity and I/O, Toshiba provided 10/100 LAN, WiFi, Bluetooth, a multi-gesture touchpad and a battery life of up to 4 and a half hours.

The 15.6-inch Toshiba Satellite Pro S500-131 has a price tag of 679 Euro, whereas the 17.3-inch L670-172 costs 749 Euro.
