After launching new models at Computex, Toshiba strikes again

In the last few months, Toshiba was pretty absent in terms of tablet product releases, but that’s because it was gearing up to roll out a slew of them.

As Japanese Engadget reports, the company has just announced new models from the Dynabook Tab family, which includes three 10.1-inch products from the Tab S50 Series 3 and two 8-inchers from the S83 series.

All new devices take advantage of Microsoft’s Windows 8.1 with Bing. As expected and as reported a while back, the avalanche of tablets bundling Windows 8.1 with Bing has begun and Toshiba seems to be at the forefront of this movement.

Microsoft has slyly made Windows 8.1 with Bing very attractive by offering it for free or at least at a very cheap price. However, there’s obviously a difference. IE has Bing as default search engine and manufacturers can’t change that in the setting and of course neither can users.

Windows 8.1 with Bing isn't something that’s commercially available and will be offered only to device manufacturers to serve their purposes. So if you have a problem with Bing, you best search somewhere else to fulfill your tablet needs.

Anyway, going back to Toshiba’s new slate family. As you probably expect, you won’t be seeing any stellar specifications on these products, but they will still be able to help you complete your basic tasks, like those related to browsing or streaming media.

The new Dynabook Tab models arrive with 4 core Intel Atom Z3735F processors clocked at up to 1.83GHz, fitted with 2GB of RAM and backed up by either 32GB or 64GB of internal storage.

Both tablet series offer the average 1280 x 800 pixel resolution, but S50 has wide viewing angles. Other specifications that all the models share include two cameras (5MP on the back and 1.2MP up in the front), microSD card slot, audio jacks, microHDMI port plus Wi-Fi, GPS and stereo speakers.

Also note, Windows 8.1 32-bit is offered by default and all the new tablets come with Office Home and Business 2013. The S50 models have a battery that is said to be capable of sustaining 7 hours of life, while the S38 should amount to 7.5 hours.

The new products should hit the market in July, but pricing specifications haven’t been announced just yet.

Toshiba will throw in a Bluetooth keyboard with some of the models, but not all of them will get the treatment.

A few weeks ago at Computex, Toshiba also launched three other models bundled with Windows 8.1 with Bing, with 7-, 8- and 10-inch form factors.
