Acquisition of OCZ Technology and its change into OCZ Storage Solutions has repercussions

Toshiba now owns OCZ, along with all its facilities, and also took on the former company’s employees, but while this does mean good things (continued existence of the OCZ brand and no layoffs), it also brings some ill tidings.

Basically, the warranties of some OCZ products will not be supported anymore.

Only the warranties on SATA-based Vector, Vertex Series SSDs, RevoDrive, and RevoDrive 3/3X2 PCIe SSDs will be honored, plus some Agility SSDs (those whose warranties last until January 2015).

So if your product is not on that list, you’ll have to hope there won’t be a drive failure any time soon.

Fortunately, any OCZ-branded products launched after January 22 are considered to be Toshiba products, on paper, so their warranties aren’t affected.
