There have been many announcements when a company or another claimed to have developed a product that trumps all others in it class in a certain area, and Toshiba claims to have accomplished such a feat with its new line of microSDHC UHS-I memory cards.

Memory cards continue to act as the main means of recording files within devices such as professional photo and video cameras.

In such applications, not only is the storage capacity important, but also the speed at which the memory cards can write data.

These needs are what the SD Association strives to meet by developing newer and better SD card specifications, and Toshiba has just announced what it dubs the fastest SD cards which comply with the SD 3.0 standard.

What the company brought out are the 8GB, 16GB and 32GB SDHC UHS-I Cards, as well as the microSDHC UHS-I 4GB, 8GB and 16GB models.

“The new SDHC UHS-I Cards are the world's first memory cards compliant with SD 3.0, UHS104, and introduce a new level of ultra-fast read and write speeds to NAND flash based memory cards,' the announcement states.

The SDHC products have a read speed of 95MB/s and a writing speed of 80MB/s, whereas the read/write speed of the microSDHC are 40MB/s and 20MB/s, respectively.

“The high level specs and wide range of cards announced by Toshiba will support developers in bringing exciting applications to future generations of consumer products,” states the press release.

“By further enhancing its SD Memory Card line-ups with products offering larger capacities and higher data transfer speeds, Toshiba will continue to meet market demand, and to lead the NAND flash memory market,” the press release added.

Toshiba is showing off these cards at IFA 2010, in Berlin, Germany, but has, unfortunately, not disclosed any sort of pricing details.
