Early this year, Toshiba officially announced the industry's first 512GB SSD, designed using 43nm MLC NAND memory and featuring a notebook-ready 2.5-inch form factor. Following that announcement, the company has issued a press release today stating that its dynabook SS RX2/WAJ notebook is the world's first portable PC that incorporates a 512GB SSD. With the announcement, Toshiba will basically provide high-end computer users with a laptop that offers a massive storage capacity, better battery life and a more efficient overall PC.

The new notebook from Toshiba takes advantage of one of the company's latest accomplishments in the SSD market, a 512GB SSD that uses 2-bit-per-cell multi-level NAND flash memory to deliver the world's largest-capacity SSD. This new configuration option is meant to provide high-end users with the very best in computing technology, offering a high-capacity, high-performance storage solution that is ready to be implemented in a lightweight portable PC.

The Dynabook SS RX2 is designed to boast a 12.1-inch display and weighs in at just 1.1kg. The laptop is just 19.5 ~ 25.5mm thick and is packed with a 12-hour capable battery, providing the end-user with an ultra-portable PC that offers the latest in computing performance. Unfortunately, the system isn't as affordable as the majority of ultraportable laptops currently available on the market, especially if you consider that the SSD upgrade will set you back as much as $1500.

Toshiba's Dynabook SS RX2/WAJ manages to deliver on a promise that ASUS made back at CES with its 512GB-equipped S121 portable PC. Unlike ASUS, Toshiba is already shipping the new system, which is available in two versions from the company's on-line shop for the Japanese market. There's no word on the availability of the 512GB SSD-equipped laptop for other markets.
