Together with the Satellite P745, today Toshiba has also announced the introduction of the Tecra R840 business notebook which is powered by second-generation Intel Core processors and AMD Radeon discrete graphics cards.

Much like the Satellite P475 we detailed in a previous article, the Tecra R840 is also built around a 14-inch LED backlit widescreen display with a resolution of 1366x768 pixels, but it features a much slimmer profile.

The R840 is in fact, the slimmest 14-inch Tecra laptop made by Toshiba which states that its profile is about 25 percent thinner than its predecessor.

The new notebook is also about 20 percent lighter, but that doesn't mean that it is any less powerful than other, beefier business notebooks, as it’s powered by Intel's latest second-generation Core processors.

Users can choose from a wide selection of CPUs, starting with the Core i3-2100 and going all the way up to the Core i7-2620M, but all of these feature two processing cores and support Intel's Hyper-Threading technology, among others.

Depending on the model chosen, graphics can be provided either by the Intel on-die HD 3000 GPU or by a dedicated Radeon HD 6450M graphics card, which is paired together with 1GB of discrete video memory.

Toshiba's Tecra R840 can also be configured with as much as 4GB of DDR3 system memory and also comes with a DVD SuperMulti optical drive and a 320GB hard drive, with 7200RPM spindle speed.

Other features include USB 3.0 connectivity, DisplayPort or HDMI video outputs, a built-in webcam, a multi-format memory card reader, an eSATA/USB combo port, a fingerprint reader, as well as Ethernet, 802.11n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 3.0 connectivity.

The optionals list includes a SmartCard reader, a serial port, and a Trusted Platform Module for high-level data encryption.

Pricing starts at $899.00 for the most basic configuration and goes all the way up to $1,429.
