That a certain tablet is better than Apple's iPad is something that was said before, but Toshiba seems to be quite serious in this claim, having already had a certain slate put up for pre-order in the US.

The thing about the tablet market is that it can be seen as a sort of battle between Apple's iPad and everyone else.

Actually, this fight hasn't been going very well for the latter camp, seeing as how yet more tablet plans were delayed, or are said to have been.

Then again, this doesn't mean that all those involved are having second thoughts, especially seeing as how slates are here to stay.

Intel, just a short while ago, said that it intends to work fast, until it creates a platform capable of enabling a slate to operate for a month on a single battery charge.

Still, while the Santa Clara, California-based company is busy promoting its Oak Trail Atom Z670 CPU, Toshiba made some progress of its own.

Simply put, the company will soon unleash an Android 3.0, ARM-powered slate said to be better than the iPad.

Online stores already have it up for pre-order, at a price of $450, which is a far cry from the Motorola XOOM's massive tag of nearly $800.

For that price, users will get the NVIDIA Tegra 2 platform, plus 1 GB of memory and 8 GB of built-in flash storage.

What's more, Toshiba threw in a 3-megapixel webcam on the front, plus a 5-megapixel one at the back and a replaceable battery.

These all, plus the expected connectivity, are packed inside a 10.1-inc frame, along with a display whose native resolution is of 1,280 x 800 pixels and which has Toshiba’s 720p upscaling technology.

Finally, the Resolution Plus feature will convert standard definition images into something akin to 720p.

Shipments of the Toshiba ANT will start in May, in this form, as well as in version with 16 GB of storage ($500) and 32 GB ($580).
