Toshiba 815T PB, the Coolest Phone for Robot Lovers

- To hit the market in April 2008

By: Florin Troaca, Communications News Editor

SoftBank, the third largest mobile operator in Japan, will soon release Toshiba 815T PB, a mobile phone that will make an excellent gadget for all the robot fans out there. Besides being packed
with lots of advanced features, the handset can also be transformed into a cool-looking robot, a mini mecha that any Sci-Fi movie would be proud of.

Toshiba 815T PB is a special edition phone made for the forthcoming release of Ketai Sousakan 7, a Japanese Sci-Fi TV series scheduled to be released in April 2008. The handset is a modified version of Toshiba 815T, released in 2007, and weighs 107 grams, measuring 102 x 50 x 16 millimeters. It comes in a clamshell form and offers 3G connectivity, a 2.4 inch internal display with a 240 x 320 pixel resolution, a 0.8 inch (96 x 39 pixels) external display and a nice 3.2 Megapixel camera with video recording.

Furthermore, Toshiba 815T PB comes with a Music Player, Infrared communication (IrDA), Instant messaging, Internet and email capabilities, preloaded Electronic Comics, phonebook backup and microSD card support for up to 2 GB of extended memory. Also, the handset features cool "robotish" face expressions that you can see at the end of this article.

Toshiba 815T PB will be available in silver and black, starting April 2008, exclusively via SoftBank (under the name of SoftBank 815T PB). There are no pricing details for the moment, nor info about a possible availability of the handset in other countries. However, if it won't be released in other markets, I guess that users who want it really bad could buy it from the SoftBank website.

This is not the first robot-phone that we've seen, but it is the first one to have such advanced features and also a cool look. Enjoy the "evil faces" in the picture.
