Zune should watch out for the competition, as Toshiba Gigabeat could reveal a much better...everything. The giant company keeps the player's name secret for the time being. But la pièce de ré■sis■tance of the device is not only the wide OLED display that kills some LCD competitors items.

Apparently, Toshiba is going to use a revolutionary
technology to provide much lighter contrast ratios than the ones used on today's screen.

According to Electronista, this technology would also eliminate the ghosting and color shifting effects that often occur in fast-moving scenes on LCDs. At only 3.2 inches, the player's screen would also display a relatively sharp 427x240 pixels resolution.

It will do that without consuming much of the extra space demanded by larger displays we're so used to see. Sadly, more info on that is currently unavailable to customers. However, the test design appears to be closely based on Microsoft's first-generation Zune player and includes both the rounded directional pad and side buttons for play/pause and backtracking through the intuitive menus.

I am pretty sure there are few amongst us that know that the earlier Gigabeat version was the basic foundation for the first Zune ever made. The Zune is also preparing itself for a complete remake. However, if I were to choose between Zune and Gigabeat, I would go for Toshiba (mainly due to its price).

Too bad there are no extra details revealed about the gorgeous player! Although there is no better moment to unveil cool gizmos than at the annual Japanese CEATEC show. During the same event, the fellows from Toshiba have also exhibited the amazing DNA checking machine, which is going to allow people to check on anyone's DNA from any location. And that's something that's worth waiting for, and so is the new Zune-breaker Gigabeat.

This really makes me wonder if Toshiba has any secret lab around area 51 where tiny oompa-loompas work for their stuff?!
