The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation will receive a helping hand from the Information Systems Group of Toshiba of Canada and Best Buy with the release of Toshiba’s stylish pink Portege M800 laptop. The Foundation will receive $40 from the sale of each M800 mobile machine, which is available only at Best Buy. The money will be spent on innovative breast cancer research as well as on education and awareness programs.

The estimations show that around 22,400 Canadian women will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year. There is one in nine chances of developing breast cancer for women over 90, and the risk rises with age. This is why awareness and early detection are critical, as treatments can be more effective and can lead to saving lives in many cases. Since 1999, the five year survival rate is 87 percent and it seems that the incidence of breast cancer in Canada has stabilized.

“Toshiba is pleased to team up with Best Buy in support of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation and its program with our new pink laptop,” said Sherry Lyons Director of Communications for Toshiba of Canada. “Breast cancer affects many Canadians and their families and we hope that through our partnership we can increase awareness and stress the importance of early detection.”

“Advances in treatment and after-care support have improved the quality of life for women who are faced with breast cancer, and we are honored to support the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation and their investment in these areas,” said Loveena Chera, Director of Marketing for Best Buy. “We are happy to partner with Toshiba on this initiative that supports a cause that touches the lives of many of our employees and customers.”

“The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation is very proud to welcome Toshiba with its retail partner Best Buy to our team of valued corporate partners,” said Jane Knox, Associate Director of National Corporate Programs for the Foundation’s Central Office. “Thanks to programs like theirs, the Foundation is able to continue to invest in innovative research that continues to positively impact the lives of Canadians living with breast cancer.”

The new Toshiba Portege M800 laptop comes in sakura pink and features the performance the company has accustomed its users with. The new machine comes with a 13.3-inch LCD screen and weighs only 4.6 lbs. It includes an Intel Pentium Dual-Core T3200 processor running at 2.0 GHz and 2 GB DDR2 memory. An Intel GMA 4500M graphics card, a 250 GB Hard Disk Drive and a DVD SuperMulti Double Layer drive come along with a bilingual keyboard, Bluetooth, wireless capabilities and a built-in 1.3MP web camera.

The machine is available for pre-orders at Best Buy starting October 10th. The Portege M800 will become available next week and will be displayed in the Best Buy stores across Canada. All willing to give a hand to support this initiative are welcome. Also, the store staff will make a pink themed day the following weekend.

The Toshiba Portege M800 pink laptop will remain available at Best Buy until December 2008 or the stock is out, and it features a promotional price of $799.
