BitTorrent developers are experiencing a huge increase in the number of Mac users, which is why they’re “stepping things up” with the release of a new stable µTorrent and BitTorrent Mainline for Mac, as well as a new Web interface for the iPad coded in HTML5.The people at BitTorrent are finally
bringing the most popular features of the PC applications to Mac and iOS user-base.
On the Macintosh front,
uTorrent 1.5.11 Build 25801 brings RSS Feeds and Smart Feed Subscriptions, which allows users to subscribe to torrent RSS feeds inside µTorrent and BitTorrent Mainline.
Users can now set up Smart Feeds to to fetch torrents and start downloads automatically.
A Scheduler option enables users to pre-schedule start, limit and stop activity for downloads at intervals you choose to set throughout the week.
“A valuable feature if you’re stymied by metered and shared networks,” say the developers at BitTorrent.
The web-interface now facilitates secure access to µTorrent and BitTorrent Mainline clients from anywhere.
BitTorrent promises that users won’t have to deal with complicated network configuration, and that they’ll be able to add and manage torrents from any browser, including from their iPad.
Mac users also get upgraded logging features as well as access to “double-secret-super-advanced preferences”. You can access the menu by using the CMD+OPT+, keyboard shortcut. “Use wisely,” says the development team.
“In addition to the desktop clients, we’re happy to release a gorgeous new Web interface for µTorrent, optimized for the iPad for a great touch experience,” reads the blog entry. “It comes complete with all the functionality in the PC-based µTorrent Remote,” BitTorrent confirms.
