Tormentum: Dark Sorrow has just popped up on Indiegogo, positioning itself as a candidate for the darkest point-and-click adventure title in the world.

The game is being pitched by Polish developer OhNoo Studios, which aim to raise a modest sum in order to fund their pet project and deliver it to Windows PC, Mac and Linux, as well as mobile devices that run Android or iOS.

Tormentum's Indiegogo page shows that the game's visual style has a distinct Gigeresque feel to it, which the devs cite as one of their main sources of inspiration, alongside the works of Zdzislaw Beksinski, a Polish painter.

They further up the ante by saying that the way they aim to present the game world is also influenced by games such as Demon's Souls and Dark Seed, full of darkness and depression.

As such, the protagonist wakes up in a dark world that is torn between reality and nightmare, with no memory of who he is or where he came from. Gradually, through exploration and using his wits (rather than his sword), he starts to uncover the sinister truth about himself and about one of the most original worlds ever created in a video game.

The devs boast three different areas to explore, each one wildly differing in architecture, weather and inhabitants, and a wealth of moral choices which will impact the game's storyline and the conclusion of the journey.

Along their way, players will encounter numerous characters with unique personalities, each one either helping or trying to prevent the hero from reaching his goal. In addition to dealing with the characters, players will also have to solve a variety of riddles and puzzles, integrated into the game in the form of locks, traps, gates and other such obstacles.

The devs state their goal to be including many new logical riddles and unusual mechanism, in addition to the ones found in standard adventure titles, in order to provide a new and exciting experience for their players.

The gameplay is entirely narrative-driven and every scene is hand-painted in a very atmospheric manner. They have made a point out of assuring people that they don't intend to make a hidden-object game, but instead a regular adventure title that includes a lot of exploration and logical mini-games.

In addition to this, the team has revealed that, although players will be able to listen to what characters tell them, they won't be able to ask the questions. Furthermore, the interface will be streamlined so that players won't have to wait for their avatar to move around the environment, wasting precious time.
