Torment: Tides of Numenera is a long way from launch, but the team at InXile working on the role-playing game is ready to give fans a look at the way two of the core systems in the game, inventory and loot, will work in theory.

Adam Heine, the design lead for the game, says in an official Kickstarter update that, “Torment will have slots for the things you'd expect, plus a few more: Armor, Helmet, Gloves, Boots, Cloak, Rings, Belt, etc. PLUS Alteration Slots and up to three Untethered Slots. Alteration Slots are for things like tattoos, piercings, implants, etc.”

Characters in Torment will also have quick slots and space for weapons and the team wants players to have plenty of options to pair items and make them easy to access and use.

During a Crisis, gamers will have to spend extra time in order to get access to items from the pack directly, so gamers need to be careful about how they use their items.

The only limitation to how much a character can carry around is encumbrance, which InXile plans to base on density.

The loot system will involve four tiers, ranging from normal items to exotic pieces of Numenera and to Artifacts that can be very useful and have the potential to be mixed with others to create even more powerful items.

Loot drops can also be contaminated by the Ninth World or not, which changes the composition of the items that the player gets access to.

Heine explains, “Each of the above loot types has a weighted chance of appearing in a given drop based on a few things: how far you are in the game; what type of loot drop it is (more on that in a second); whether the drop is Poor, Average, or Rich; and other customizations from the area designer.”

A lot more details about loot chances are offered in the Kickstarter update.

Torment: Tides of Numenera will be launched on the PC at some point in 2015.
