Torment: Tides of Numenera is heading for a very successful funding drive via Kickstarter and the developers at inXile are ready to offer more information on the kind of themes that the game will tackle and how they relate to those of Planescape: Torment.

Kevin Saunders, the project director at inXile, and Colin McComb, the creator lead, tell VG247 that, “Using Numenara, we can say ‘What does one life matter?’ You are a person who will be seeking their own answers, but you are surrounded by evidence of people who have done incredible things for the world, incredible things with the universe, and incredible things with reality.”

The idea is to expand on the question at the core of Planescape, which focused on what events or influences had the ability to change the nature of a creature inside the game universe.

The philosophy of Tides of Numenera is a little bit different because inXile wants players to be interested in how their own character compares with other heroes that have affected the world through their use of time, gravity and other supernatural forces.

The team has also talked about the actual Tides, which are innovating on the classic good and evil mechanics of most role-playing games.

It states, “We don’t want to describe to the player what the answer to the question is. We don’t have the answer to ‘What does one life matter?’”

The player should create his own position based on the events in Torment: Tides of Numenera and then apply his ideas back to the game world, shaping his character and the universe he is interacting with.

The game still has more than three weeks left on Kickstarter and it is closing in to 2.5 million dollars (1.7 million Euro) in contributions.

The release date is currently set for November 2014.
