Charlie Shanaian and Tori Spelling separated in August, but didn't publicly announce their split until this year's September.
They are committed now to officially terminate their marriage. On Tuesday, Shanaian presented 'the papers' at the Divorce Court in Los Angeles.
Either party made no comment yet.
It was the first marriage for both and they didn't have any children.
"I went into the marriage with the best intentions, hopes and dreams," Spelling told People magazine. "I feel that I've really disappointed people. I've disappointed everyone who came to my wedding. I'm disappointed in myself. I don't know exactly what happened and when things started to go wrong."
According to the magazine, Spelling fell for co-star Dean McDermott while filming TV movie "Mind over Murder" in Canada. Their romance led to McDermott's wife Mary Eustace filing for divorce after 12 years of marriage and two children.
Both Spelling and McDermott denied their budding romance had anything to do with their respective splits.
