Tori Spelling and husband Dean McDermott are pulling all the stops to promote the finale of season 2 of True Tori, the docuseries on Lifetime that chronicles their attempts at saving their marriage after he was caught cheating on her with a random woman last year.

The two did separate interviews with Dr. Oz for his show, in which they openly talked about their most intimate and darkest fears and problems. Segments from Tori’s interview are available here, in which she talks about the broken trust in her marriage, her serious health issues and how stress is ruining her life.

Dean, on the other hand, discussed his demons (addiction to drugs and alcohol, and long struggle with clinical depression), his hopes for the future and how getting caught cheating was, in retrospect, the best thing that could have happened to him and Tori because it forced them to face and work through their problems.

Tori’s story

The former “Beverly Hills 90210” star was hospitalized just recently, amid talk that her marriage to Dean had fallen apart completely. That last part turned out to be false, but the reason why her health took a turn for the worse, she explains now, is because her body doesn’t know how to handle stress.

Whenever she’s in a bad place, Tori internalizes all the negative feelings instead of dealing with them, and it causes serious damage to her health because they manifest themselves in bouts of illness. Tori is determined to get better because she no longer wants her children to think of their mother as sick all the time.

She says the show has helped her in terms of forcing her to deal with her issue, facing them and looking for a solution for them, instead of putting them aside and having the stress kill her from the inside.

Tori says her trust in Dean will take years to be the same as before he cheated (and got caught), but by all means, it does sound like she’s forgiven him. So now you know what to expect from the season finale.

Dean’s story

Dean too is convinced that his marriage to Tori will last, despite all the fights we’ve seen them having throughout the season, on a variety of more or less stupid issues, from how to bake a potato correctly to exes and mean innuendos.

He thinks getting caught cheating was ultimately a good thing, because it made them stronger, it forced them to have a better appreciation of the other and of their marriage. As for why they made everything public, Dean says they had no other choice: they’d already shown the public the good side of their marriage, it was only fair to show them the bad one as well.

They also did it because they wanted to “help others,” because Dean wanted other men and women in his situation to know that they’re not alone. He’s shocked that he would be criticized online when he did it with such an altruistic goal in mind.

Clearly, the money also played an important part, but it was only half of the equation, he’s quick to add. They did it for others, to help.

We will add on a final note that there still are many theories out there saying that the cheating never happened, and that the “scandal” was staged just so Tori and Dean could have something else to talk about than their happy marriage. If this is true, they got 2 full seasons out of it and lots of media exposure, so it was probably worth it.
