14 DAY TRIAL // You already knew that no topic was off-limits with Tori Spelling and Dean McDermott’s reality show True Tori, which is now at its second season, and this was further confirmed the other night, when the episode “Raw Nerves” aired.
On this episode, in between working on their marriage and rebuilding the trust that Dean broke when he cheated on Tori one year ago, they also discussed – at length! – about her breasts.
What would a reality show be if it didn’t show doctor’s appointments and chats on very personal topics? Also this season, Dean came very close to getting a vasectomy on camera, so Tori seeing a surgeon to have her implants taken out isn’t that shocking, if you think about it.
Tori’s implants are “expired,” about to be “recalled”
Of the surgical work Tori Spelling is said to have gotten through the years, the former “Beverly Hills 90210” alum only owned up to getting her breasts enlarged. In the episode mentioned above, which is available for free viewing on Lifetime, she realizes that getting this work done in her 20s wasn’t the best idea.
Apparently, Tori didn’t know that she was supposed to have the implants replaced every 10 or 15 years, to minimize the risk of leaks, ruptures, or infections. Apparently, she never got hers changed and she never wondered why her breasts were “rock hard,” as she describes them in front of the camera.
Tori is now on a mission to get better, to do everything in her power to get her health back on track, after finally understanding that all the stress she has in her life is wreaking havoc on her immune system.
This is why she finally went to a surgeon to have him look at her breasts – but she was shocked to learn that they needed to be removed ASAP. She was presented with 2 options: either have them replaced with smaller ones in the same procedure, or take them out, wait for a while, and get new implants later.
If she chooses the latter, which she showed signs of doing, then she’d have to live with “pancake” breasts until the next intervention, because the tissue will sag considerably once the implants are out.
More self-doubt, confidence issues
This again made Tori wonder out loud if Dean would still love her, even if her breasts hung low like “pancakes.” Viewers at home knew she had nothing to worry though, because he assured her he’d love the hell out of those breasts, because he loved her unconditionally.
Still, Tori was left with a sense of regret at having gotten the procedure: she claimed she wasn’t informed about having to change the implants every decade or so. Had she been told that, she would have opted out of getting the initial enlargement because she’s too scared of being put to sleep to put herself through this willingly more than once.
At the end of the episode, Tori and Dean decided her body needed a “breast break,” so she would have the implants removed and wait for another while until getting the replacements.
Surgery on reality TV, definitely not a novel idea
Plastic surgery on reality television is not a novel idea, so if Tori allows cameras inside the room she’s being operated on next episode, she wouldn’t be the first to do – and definitely not the last.
Kris Jenner got a facelift on camera, and the late Joan Rivers did the same for her documentary. Celebrities are feeling more and more at ease with camera crews around, and because of it, would allow them to shoot them at their most vulnerable. For instance, Kourtney Kardashian actually gave birth on camera and had the footage included on Keeping Up with the Kardashians.
The “hardcore” version of what celebrities are doing is represented by those reality shows focusing exclusively on surgical makeovers: brides getting work done ahead of the wedding, regular people getting work done to look like their idols, and perhaps the most troubling of all, series about addicts to plastic surgery, who are either trying to “improve” their appearance more or to fix previous botched work.
Tori is in fine company.
