While many BlackBerry users around the world are currently taking advantage of the BlackBerry 7.1 OS flavor, the owners of Torch 9800 handsets on the airwaves of Bell and Virgin Mobile in Canada can only download and install the OS 6.0.0.706 on their devices.

In all fairness, this is still an upgrade, one that brings the firmware on these devices up from version 6.0.0.534 previously loaded on them.

The new operating system version was made available for download via RIM’s support website, and those who would like to take advantage of the enhancements it brings along should head to this page if they are Bell customers, and here if they are Virgin Mobile users.

Before proceeding with the software update, users should make sure that all data on their devices has been backed up.

The update will have to be performed via a Windows PC, through the BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
