The release of the new BlackBerry Torch 9800 smartphone from the Canadian mobile phone maker Research In Motion in its home land is getting closer and closer, with the first units of the device reportedly hitting Bell's stores around the country.

It seems that only a small number of units are being delivered to each location for the time being, but more might arrive soon enough.

Originally said to be put on sale in Canada on September 24th, the BlackBerry Torch 9800 was pushed back about a week at all wireless carriers in the country, and at some abroad.

While Bell started to send the first units to its retail locations, SaskTel confirmed that it would have the new device on sale for its users starting with September 30th, just as all other operators in Canada would do.

When it comes to the aforementioned units shipping to Bell stores, word is that small amounts are made available at the moment, namely 15 – 21 per location.

The price tag at which Bell makes the device available was set at $179.95 on a 3-year contract agreement and $599.95 outright.

Currently, the wireless carrier has the new BlackBerry slider available for pre-order on its website, and says that it plans on starting to send it to users come September 29th.

As for SaskTel, the operator confirmed that it would make the phone available on the last day of this month, also in limited quantities.

“The BlackBerry Torch is set to arrive at SaskTel Sept 30th! Quantities are limited so call your store/dealer for availability info,” the carrier announced via Twitter.

The price tag for this handset is said to have been set at $199.99, while the no contract cost is expected to be of over $600. (via MobileSyrup)

Other wireless carriers in the country should also start shipping the phone at the end of September, though official announcements are still expected from them.
