Google's Summer of Code 2012 is a done deal, well in the sense that the students have all been picked, all that's left to do now is the actual coding. But Google's been keeping things interesting with some stats about the entire selection process.

1212 students were admitted this year, more than in any previous years and, of course, a lot more actually applied.

As in previous years, many of the students came from several well represented countries, both developed ones, like the US, or in development ones like India.

The number of students from each country is a matter of national pride for some, but school pride is probably even bigger, which is why Google released the school stats for this year as well.

The University of Moratuwa from Sri Lanka topped this year's GSoC, as it has for several years now and tops the overall chart. It had 29 students accepted this year, up from 27 last year.

The Polytechnic University of Bucharest, Romania came in second place, with 21 students accepted, but that's down from 23 in the previous year.

Romania came in eighth in the country chart this year, with 40 students, while Sri Lanka came in seventh place with 42.

The National University of Singapore was tied in the second spot, also with 21 students, up from just 11 in the year before. The four places after that all went to universities from India.

Overall, since Google Summer of Code Started, University of Moratuwa provided the most students, 164, while the Polytechnic University of Bucharest came in second with 75 students.

Anyone that hasn't gotten in has a chance next year of course, but in the meantime, there's some actual coding to be done, over the course of the summer.
