Trend Micro is a software company that has the mission of developing, delivering and supporting the most flexible and customizable Internet security solutions to address the ever-changing threats on the Web.

Yesterday, they have published a semi-annual threat roundup and forecast, that can be found on their website. You can click this link right here to get right to it! I took a look at it and I have to say that it is pretty interesting. It contains an executive summary after which it introduces the reader into infrastructure vulnerabilities and high-impact threats. It continues with content-based threats (a larger subject) and then process-based threats. Before they give the forecast for the year's second semester they analyze distributed threats, while the last part of it is the best practices chapter.

What I really liked about this document is the fact that it's written in a way that everyone can understand and you don't have to be a geek to see the point. It's definitely worth taking a look at, it's well structured and has a lot of drawings to explain the facts.

More and more threats are lurking on the Web these days, as shown in this report. The Trend Micro people have written in detail about the way threats have escalated in the fist 6 months of this year. They have included: vulnerabilities generated by security weaknesses, global outbreaks, targeted attacks, phishing, spam, malware, spyware, adware and last but not least, bots.

Their experts advise (in the threat roundup) deployment of hypertext transfer protocol scanning methods, corporate anti-spyware scanning ass well restricting user privileges and other methods - that's for enterprises and such. As for home users, Trend Micro advises running a real-time anti-virus scan service, beware of Internet pages that require software installation and other methods as well. Do read what they have to say, for full info.
