There is little tangible proof of the success of the Windows Genuine Advantage mechanism. Microsoft itself has only statistics as the palpable sign of the fact that the WGA is hard at work. And the Redmond Company has chosen to keep those statistics to itself. But when it comes to Windows Vista, Microsoft has integrated anti-piracy methods into the architecture of the operating system itself. Pirated copies of Vista will suffer a forced
transition to Reduced Functionality Mode, making the non-genuine operating system unusable.
And while we are on the subject of interpreting WGA signs... Cori Hartje, director of the Microsoft Genuine Software Initiative, following the business availability of Windows Vista, eight days later to be more exact, was able to buy dirt cheap counterfeit copies of the platform in South America. Microsoft interpreted the fact that bootleggers had become aware of the WGA as a positive proof of the anti-piracy mechanism's result.
But what Microsoft won't talk about is the failures of the Windows Genuine Advantage to protect Windows Vista from being pirated. However, there is more than ample proof of that on peer-to-peer networks. And one instance that delivers legitimacy to the failure of Microsoft's anti-piracy mechanism is a top with the best rated Windows Vista cracks available.
