It is light for its type and can be mounted on pretty much any motherboard

There are plenty of coolers that work with one or two central processing units (CPUs), or accelerated processing units from Advanced Micro Devices, but Scythe likes to provide universal compatibility, and that holds true for the Iori.

Iori is the newest Top-Flow CPU cooler that the company put together, measuring 107 x 92 x 136 mm, or 4.21 x 3.62 x 5.35 inches. It also weighs 400 grams, 0.88 pounds as it were, which is a surprisingly low mass for its size.

Home-theater personal computers might appreciate it for that, despite the fact that Iori isn't a low-profile solution.

Still, it has a good heat conductivity, thanks to the three 6 mm copper heatpipes, which cross the heatsink twice.

That is why it might do well in a gaming system as well. It's definitely better than most reference cooling solutions that ship with Intel and AMD CPUs/APUs, if nothing else.

Speaking of CPU/APU support, the Scythe Iori ships with mounting clips for AMD sockets AM2, AM2+, AM3, AM3+, FM1, FM2 and FM2+, as well as Intel LGA1150, LGA1155, LGA1156, LGA1366 and LGA775 sockets.

That's pretty much every CPU (and APU) whose owners are likely to think that a non-reference cooler is required.

A Push-Pin mounting mechanism is used, allowing the heatsink to be quickly set up on any motherboard, from any Intel/AMD motherboard partner. Sure, it's meant for mini-ITX and micro-ATX mainboards, but it will work fine on all of them, since it's a question of socket more than of motherboard hardware layout.

In addition to three 6 mm copper heatpipes, the Iori boasts a custom-made PWM axial-fan of 100 mm diameter and variable rotary speed of 300 to 1,800 RPM (rotations per minute).

On that note, the air flow is of 7.3 to 43.74 cubic feet per minute (12.4 to approximately 74.3m³/h).

That said, the noise can go from 4.5 dBA to 26.7 dBA. It's a custom-made axial fan with normal 92 mm mounting holes but a diameter of 100 mm, as we said. It allows it to blow air over the memory, chipset and voltage regulator module.

Scythe Iori CPU/APU Cooler (part number SCIOR-1000) should be up for sale already, at a price of €24.50 / $35. You'll have to check with your local retailers to see if it's available in your region. You can expect the shipping price to be a bit higher than the one given here, since this sum doesn't include taxes.
