What are you hoping to see at CES next year?

CES is one of the biggest electronics fair shows of the year, where the world’s major tech manufacturers gather up in order to introduce their latest products and give us a glimpse at upcoming prototypes that are under development.

Anyhow, unlike in the past, this year the rumor mill hasn't spurted out a lot of rumors concerning what major products we’re going to see launch at the event. Yet some bits of information have managed to make their way online.

Since the event will kick start in the early days of January, I think a quick tour of the most anticipated smartphone announcements for CES 2015 is called for. So in what follows, we’re going to take a look at the most exciting rumors we have stumbled upon so far, smartphone-wise.

Samsung Galaxy S6

In this case, the rumor mill seems to be quite torn. Samsung will either unveil its next flagship at CES 2014 or a month later at MWC 2014, we can't know for sure at this point.

We have conflicting information related to the handset too. Word on the street is divided between saying that the Galaxy S6 will arrive in two versions and that it will be introduced as a standalone device with a curved display on both sides.

One thing is certain – Samsung will be utilizing a full aluminum body while the handset is concerned. However, the most recent information indicates that the metal body will be seasoned with a colorful plastic front.

The rumor mill can’t agree on the S6’ form factor either. What’s apparent is that the handset will boast a display ranging from 5.2-inches to 5.5-inches with 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution and a Snapdragon 801 chip on the inside.

But that can’t be right, given that we are dealing with a flagship smartphone. On the other hand, the Galaxy Note Edge-like variant of the Galaxy S6 is rumored to arrive with a 5.3-inch AMOLED display with 1440 x 2560 pixel resolution, a Snapdragon 810 chipset and 4GB of RAM.

The model will take advantage of an iris scanner and sounds more like the flagship we would expect to come out of Samsung.

At this point all we told you comes from the realm of speculation, so take it with a big grain of salt. We’ll have to wait until CES 2015 to see if any of the information we shared with you turns out to be the real deal.

Xiaomi Mi5

That Xiaomi Mi5 will indeed be unveiled at CES 2015 is a bigger possibility than the Galaxy S6 release. In recent days the handset has leaked in an image, revealing it will arrive with a pretty big display (phablet territory?).

The model that can be spotted in the image is a bit reminiscent of the Xiaomi Mi 4 and comes with almost non-visible bezels. The rumor mill also said recently that the handset would take advantage of a sapphire display.

Things are getting hot. So let’s see what other specs you should be expecting the Mi5 to come equipped with.

In the display department, we should expect a device with either 5.5-inch or 6-inch boasting QHD resolution (1440 x 2560 res) and equipped with a Qualcomm 64-bit octa-core Snapdragon 810 chipset with Adreno 430 graphics processing unit on the inside.

There is a pretty decent chance that the Mi5 will include a 20.7MP main camera with Sony Exmor sensor, while the front-facing snapper will be of the 5MP variety.

Sony Xperia Z4

Not so long ago the Sony’s purported upcoming flagship has appeared in an image, alongside the information that the smartphone will probably appear in James Bond’s upcoming flick, Spectre in order to increase the device’s exposure to the masses.

Let’s face it, over the years Sony’s handsets have been pretty great, but not so creative. Can the Xperia Z4 make a difference? Maybe.

As is the case with the Samsung Galaxy S6, we don’t really know for sure whether the smartphone will go on to make a debut at CES 2015 or at MWC, a month later.

Regardless of when it will be announced, the rumored specs for the Xperia Z4 include a 5.2-inch display with QHD resolution (1440 x 2560 pixels), a Snapdragon 810 (although some sources mention the Snapdragon 805) fitted with 4GB of RAM And Cat.6 LTE.

The handset will reportedly have a 20.7MP camera boasting a next-generation sensor plus two additional lens elements that allow it to collect more light. In the frontal position, we find a 4.8MP camera with wide-angle view.

The Xperia Z4 should also bring a pretty high-capacity 3420 mAh battery into the equation, which should offer a better life span than the Xperia Z3 does.

ASUS’ next-gen ZenFone

ASUS has yet to impress smartphone users with its ZenFone lineup of handsets, but 2015’s models might as well do the trick.

As we’re led to understand from to the company’s official teaser for CES 2015, in all possibility ASUS is planning to unveil a smartphone with a dual camera during the event.

Does it ring a bell? Yes, it does. Huawei just introduced something similar last week, in the form of the Honor 6 Plus.

Specification-wise, we can’t tell you a great deal about the upcoming ZenFone flagship, except that it will come powered by an Intel chip.

The dual camera technology is probably going to end up on a 5.5-inch model, but ASUS might be setting up the stage to unveil multiple ZenFones, some taking advantage of the MediaTek platform.

So there you have it folks, these are the top flagship smartphones you should be looking out for at CES 2015. Granted, not all of them might get to be unveiled, but we can certainly hope for the most positive scenario.
