The top players’ downfall also affects ODM partners like Inventec and Quanta

Here comes more bad news for brand notebook vendors. Even if top players in the business are trying to keep afloat by unveiling diverse solutions, customers don’t seem to be paying much attention.

New information provided by the latest DigiTimes research shows that the world’s top 5 vendors experienced a combined drop in shipments with 18% for the month of October, compared to September.

On top of that, the top 3 ODMs also saw a 14% decrease in shipments in comparison with the month before.

Nevertheless, bad news doesn't apply to everybody. Asus, for example, was the only brand vendor to see its shipments rise with 30% in October. The company has just unveiled some new models, which have apparently managed to attract some attention.

HP, on the other hand, plunged into the abyss, falling from 3.5 million units September, when the company thrived on orders coming from the educational sector, to less than 2 million in October.

The research didn't provide a clear picture of Dell’s position. The company completed its privatization process on October 29, and it has since then stated that it might refresh its notebook product line, in an attempt to boost sales.

The same goes for Lenovo, which teased an Androidbook in October, but DigiTimes doesn't predict a bright future for it, saying that the device won’t sell very well, at least at first.
