I am sure that you are already familiar with the wonderful imagery that ships by default with Windows Vista. Familiar and maybe bored already? I'm going out on a limb here, but if you are like me you also tire easily and are in constant need of variations. The 36 static backgrounds built into the operating system are simply not enough. And at a certain point I think that everybody is going to want a tad more.

This is why I thought I would provide you with the top 5 download links for the lost Windows Vista wallpapers. While I do not doubt your capacity to hunt down great content for the Windows Vista desktop the links that I will provide you will deliver access to content created especially for Windows Vista and with Microsoft involvement.

The best alternative resource for Windows Vista backgrounds is the High Resolution Windows Vista Desktop Wallpaper Pack. The images have been taken by none other than Hamad Darwish, a photographer from Kuwait directly commissioned by Microsoft. (here)

The next resource comes from the Ultimate team that has made available for download Windows Ultimate Wallpaper - Start, and Strands backgrounds. These are in fact mere static previews of DreamScene video wallpapers that are yet to be released for Windows Vista Ultimate. (here)

Out of the PhotoVista competition debuted in December 2006 by Microsoft Singapore, Vista users can access another great collection of Vistas. If you want to access content that is specific to Singapore right on your desktop, then the PhotoVista wallpapers are the right answer for you. (here)

Available on 139 emerging markets world wide, Windows Vista Starter edition also comes with a great set of wallpapers although at low resolution. But still the Vistas in Starter are not to be overlooked. (here)

Additionally, the Silverlight team has also made available a couple of backgrounds for Vista based on the graphics for the cross-browser, cross-platform plug-in. (here)
