December is not only the season to be jolly, it's also the season to count the year's successes and flops at the box office, and Time Magazine

seems to have already made up its mind about which films did not bring in people at the cinemas.

According to the publication, the film that takes home the prize of worst movie of the year is Adam Sandler's continuation of his middle-aged comedy “Grown Ups,” aptly named “Grown Ups 2,” which features a host of comedians apart from Sandler: Chris Rock, David Spade, and Kevin James and yet somehow fails to deliver.

To most, the movie is just a re-edit of his previous one with the addition of a few more dirty jokes.

The number two position is filled by “Salinger,” an effort by writer director Shane Salerno to bring to focus the life of the “Catcher in the Rye” author, but, in the opinion of the magazine staff, it falls short of that, by being “incessant, obtrusive and hysterical in tone.”

At number 3 we find the sci-fi drama “The Host” about body-snatching alien symbiosis, based on a Stephenie Meyers novel. This source of inspiration is the very reason the film fails from the beginning, writes Time, because the name Meyers “strikes fear into the heart of film critics everywhere.”

The sci-fi action film “After Earth” is placed at number 4. This notorious box-office bomb was seen by many as a way for main actor Will Smith to promote Scientologist learnings and also his son into an acting career.

The middle of the chart is occupied by yet another sci-fi comedy / action film, “R.I.P.D.” starring Jeff Bridges and Ryan Reynolds as two undead detectives trying to prevent the world of the dead from pouring into the world of the living.

The magazine notes that even Bridges' name in the cast isn't enough to elevate this movie's bad plot.

The rest of the list is completed by movies such as Ridley Scott's “The Counselor”, the remake of “The Wizard of Oz” and the final chapter of “The Hangover” saga. Here is the complete list below:

"Grown Ups 2" "Salinger" "The Host" "After Earth" "R.I.P.D." "Only God Forgives" "The Big Wedding" "The Counselor" "Oz the Great and Powerful"  "The Hangover III"
