Jörn Lindau proudly announced on September 15th, the immediate availability of the Toorox 09.2010 operating system, now powered by the Linux Kernel 2.6.34-gentoo-r3 and the Xorg Server 1.8.2.

The good news is that Toorox 09.2010 now contains a GNOME version also, and this release announcement is all about it. The following applications were updated: IceCat 3.6.8, OpenOffice.org 3.2.1, Mozilla Thunderbird 3.1.1, The GIMP 2.6.10, Wine 1.3.1, Exaile 0.3.2.0, Compiz 0.8.6, Code::Blocks 10.05, Audacious 2.4.0, Ardour 2.8.7.

"As from today Toorox 09.2010 is available as a "GNOME" edition, too. Most users are working either with the KDE or with the GNOME as desktop."

"So, I have decided to make a Toorox "GNOME" edition, too. It could now be interesting for all the G-Fans out there. Toorox 09.2010 comes with the GNOME 2.30.2."

"This was optically customized and looks like the "KDE" edition (Systemconfig and Starter in the panel - Harddisk overview and Process Manger on the desktop - Oxygen Icons, Colour Theme ... ). The system comes without any QT dependency." -said Jörn Lindau in the official release announcement.

The following Qt-based application were replaced by GTK-based apps:

· K3B replaced by Brasero; · Ktorrent replaced by Deluge; · Kopete replaced by Empathy and Pidgin; · VLC replaced by Gxine; · Amarok replaced by Exaile; · Kmail and Kontact replaced by Evolution; · Kwin Effects replaced by Compiz;

The KDE edition of the Toorox 09.2010 operating system will be released in the next weeks.

Toorox is a Genoo-based Linux Live DVD, thus it can run without touching existing partitions (users still have the option to install it permanently). Toorox can be used for tasks like data backup or secure Internet browsing and also provides Linux newcomers with an intuitive look and feel. Toorox is available for both 32-bit and 64-bit architectures.
