Toorox 02.2011 KDE has been released. The KDE edition of the Gentoo-based live Linux distro comes with the latest KDE SC release, a recent kernel and up-to-date packages. Toorox has been a KDE-based distro traditionally, but a GNOME edition started being published last year.

"After the release of the 'GNOME' Edition on the 8th of February it's time for the new 'KDE' Edition, too. And here it is: Toorox 02.2011 'KDE'," Jörn Lindau announced.

"It contains of course all the improvements of the 'GNOME' Edition ('200 Lines' Kernel Speed-Patch, Grub2, Installer extensions). Nearly all packages were updated," the announcement continues.

As its creator explained, Toorox 02.2011 KDE is based on the previous release, which landed earlier this month, Toorox 01.2011 GNOME. It's based on the latest KDE SC 4.6 and provides QT-based alternatives to the popular GNOME packages.

"The Kernel is the same as in the last 'GNOME' release (Patched 2.6.37-gentoo). Toorox 02.2011 contains KDE 4.6.0 as desktop environment," Lindau continued.

"The Xorg-Server was updated to version 1.9.4. The Office-Suite is now the latest LibreOffice 3.3.1. The new images are stored in the 'download' section. They're available as a 32bit (1.7GB) and 64bit (1.9GB) system," he added.

About Toorox

Toorox is a Genoo-based Linux Live DVD, thus it can run without touching existing partitions (users still have the option to install it permanently). Toorox uses Knoppix technology for the live environment.

Toorox can be used for tasks like data backup or secure Internet browsing and also provides Linux newcomers with an intuitive look and feel. Toorox is available for both 32-bit and 64-bit architectures.

Currently the Toorox servers are down, possibly due to the increase of traffic caused by the new release.
