The device has been fully funded on Indiegogo

Smartwatches trying to replace smartphones are so yesterday, so make way for the device that wants to be your smartphone, tablet and laptop, all in one.

The Dragonfly Futurefön is one such initiative which is currently gathering up funds on Indiegogo and has received incredible feedback from interested backers, raising up to 340 times more than what it initially planned to.

Dragonfly is the most versatile machine you have ever seen

Basically, the Dragonfly can do it all. It’s a machinery that boasts phone capabilities, a large display, a physical keyboard and can run both Android and Windows apps.

Just imagine putting two smartphone displays together to create a bigger screen that you eventually couple to a keyboard to use in notebook mode.

The Dragonfly has a special collapsible mechanism that lets you fold the parts of the device, so you can carry it around with ease.

It has a detachable part called the Slingshot that can be used as a smartphone or rather a phablet, considering it has a 7-inch display (there are two Slingshots, which makes Dragonfly a family-friendly device).

There are a bunch of options to consider operating-system-wise, starting with the WinDroid which has the Slingshot run on Android and the base on Windows, with the user being able to switch between the two OS-es at will.

However, if you’re an Android geek you can opt for the Android-only version, which offers the Android on board of the base and Slingshot.

Will the Dragonfly actually become a real-life product?

When it comes to specifications, things sound a little bit too good to be true (indication of some bizarre activity going on?).

The device offers two 7-inch Super AMOLED displays with 2560 x 1440 resolution (which would amount for a combined resolution of 5120 x 1440 on a 12-inch display) which is on par with what devices such as the Samsung Galaxy TabPRO 8.4 offer.

In the computing department, the Slingshot has a multi-core processor (unnamed) fueling its insides, while the base takes advantage of an x86 multi-core processor.

All three parts are equipped with 4GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage. Dragonfly is then outfitted with dual SD card slots, dual LTE antennas, dual front- and rear-facing camera, a 3200 mAh battery in the Slingshot plus a large battery powering the base.

It sure seems like the Dragonfly could end up being a machine with great potential, but we surely hope this isn’t some sort of hoax. For starters, we know for a fact that Microsoft and Google frown upon dual-boot machines and the specs are a little too much.

Anyway, this might be just paranoia on our behalf and it could be that there’s actually nothing fishy behind Dragonfly.

The cheapest Android Dragonfly will cost you $300 / €241, while the most wallet-friendly WinDroid will retail for $400 / / €321. The team behind the project hopes to start shipping the gizmo starting with late Q1 2015 or early Q2 2015.
