The fight against G-14 has yet another ally. Started with the help of FIFA and UEFA bodies, the offensive against rich clubs is being continued by politicians. Tony Blair is the latest example, after signing a petition in which he is totally against the G-14 initiatives in terms of future football supremacy.

The G-14 Group, which signed up 4 other clubs in the meantime, is formed of 18 of the richest clubs in European football. The main countries represented are Italy, Spain, France, England and Germany. The first
and most controversial measure they want to apply is to form a special continental league, in which only the richest clubs in Europe can participate. They don't have to be the same all the time, as long as they're rich. The financial discrimination has brought severe critics from most of the European football officials.

The Independent European Sports Review (IESR) released a report concerning all this - which was signed by Tony Blair, among other politicians - in which FIFA and UEFA are asked for immediate measures in terms of prizes towards clubs in European competitions, reducing the number of foreign players in one team and fewer funds from domestic federations.

The report saw immediate and negative reactions from important European clubs like Real Madrid, Chelsea or AC Milan, since they will be the first to suffer in case the European bodies accept IESR requests. The European institution has motivated its demands by its hope that the club will no longer pay enormous sums of money in transfers - destabilizing the economical football market - but focus more on raising stars in their own yard.

Tony Blair's initiative to get involved in this war for European supremacy by the G-14 comes as a continuing effort made by the FIFA president, Sepp Blatter. He warned many times in the past years that those responsible should come together and make all the necessary adjustments in order for the G-14 plan to fail. This year, Blatter issued a statement, in which he severely criticized the G-14, and said the sooner they will retrieve the better.
