The Chronic Dev Team is preparing to ship Greenpois0n tomorrow morning at 10:10:10 A.M, to assist new-generation iPhone, iPod touch, and Apple TV owners in hacking their device for added benefits. This reminder is not to be taken as an encouragement to jailbreak.

Chronic Dev Team member Joshua Hill (@p0sixninja) recently confirmed that Greenpois0n, a tool to be employed with the purpose of jailbreaking iOS 4.1 devices, will launch on October 10, at precisely 10:10:10 A.M.

According to his tweet, “Things have progressed to the point where we don't expect anymore roadblocks. ETA for greenpois0n is 10/10/10 at 10:10:10AM.”

The jailbreak will be available for iPad, iPhone 4, iPod touch 4th generation and the newly-released Apple TV, which runs a variant of the iPhone operating system.

Jailbreaking enables users of an iOS device to run unapproved code, such as third party applications that Apple denied a spot in its iTunes App Store.

One example is Derek Kepner’s IS Drive, a BitTorrent-centric app that enabled users of the Imageshack torrent download service to control and add torrent downloads through an intuitive interface right on their device.

Apple has removed the app from its iTunes listings, making it unavailable through the single venue iOS customers can get their goods legally.

The developer is likely to start selling his app via Cydia, a repository for unapproved, third-party applications, but also for pirated apps. Cydia can only be accessed on a jailbroken unit.

While jailbreaking is legal in the U.S, using the hack to freely download apps that were otherwise paid products is not.

Softpedia doesn't encourage jailbreaking / unlocking the iPhone / iPod touch / iPad / Apple TV, or any other device.

This article has a purely informational purpose and doesn't, in any way, suggest that you should hack your Apple device.

Using hacks may render your device unusable, or may reduce the quality of your experience employing the respective device.

If you choose to download and install jailbreak tools, you will do so at your own risk. Unlocking / jailbreaking your iPhone / iPod touch / iPad / Apple TV may violate your warranty or the EULA with Apple and / or your cellular-service provider.
