How long till we see Lara Croft again? The answer to that question has many different variants, depending on what you mean.
Lara Croft has
become such an iconic gaming character that a trip to the local game store or even to the mall might get you to look at a real sized replica of Lara, sometimes even an actress impersonating the character. Angelina Jolie has starred in a film series based on the game that has garnered enough success that we might see a new Lara Croft movie next year, with the lovely Miss Jolie playing the adventurer. But the best chance at seeing Lara again, doing what she does best, which is adventuring and saving the world, is to wait patiently until November, when the next game in the long running videogame series hits the shelves.
The Lara Croft gaming franchise has been in a bit of a limbo after the dismal Angel of Darkness. But Eidos managed to find a developer that would do Lara justice in the form of Crystal Dynamics studio. The franchise re-launch with Legend was well received, even if nowhere near the levels of praise and sales that the first two games in the series attracted. The Anniversary remake was also a solid game, although, in essence, it was just a new graphics remake of the original.
Eidos, which is now a subsidiary of
SCi, is pinning a lot of hope on the release of the newest game in the series, called Tomb Raider: Underworld. Eidos is saying that November will see it launched, even though an exact date has not been given. The game is set to make its way to PCs, the Nintendo DS, the Nintendo Wii, the Xbox 360, the PlayStation 3 and the PlayStation 2.
It's interesting to note that GameStop has a more exact date, saying that the game will be delivered in North America on November 18, coinciding with the European release.
