Crystal Dynamics, the developer of the popular and long-running Tomb Raider franchise, has just announced that it will be releasing a Trilogy edition for the PlayStation 3, consisting of Tomb Raider: Legend and Tomb Raider: Anniversary, both remastered in high definition, as well as the more recent Tomb Raider Underworld.

It seems that more and more developers are eager to re-release their popular titles of yesteryear for the PlayStation 3, with Sony itself leading the way with the God of War Collection, while Ubisoft is already releasing remastered versions of its classic Prince of Persia titles for the Japanese console.

Now, Crystal Dynamics has just revealed that it will be launching next year a trilogy collection of its most recent Tomb Raider games, including Legend, Anniversary and Underworld.

The existence of this collection was leaked by a listing at online retailer Amazon, specifically its German version.

It was then confirmed by Karl Stewart, the global brand director for Crystal Dynamics, on his Twitter account.

"Yes, it's official. Tomb Raider PS3 'Trilogy' pack coming in the new year. Full details next week. Watch this space."

The listing on Amazon set a release date of March 22 for the entire Tomb Raider trilogy, and revealed that all three games would offer trophy support.

A collector's edition is also present, which unlocks male and female avatars for use in PlayStation Home, Sony's online social network.

This is definitely good news for fans of the series who wanted to once again experience the most recent Tomb Raider games before the upcoming release of the series' reboot, entitled, simply, Tomb Raider.

Legend and Anniversary were only released for the PlayStation 2, back in 2006 and 2007, while Underworld did appear for the PlayStation 3, in 2008.

Crystal Dynamics is now hard at work the reboot of the Tomb Raider series, which will act as an origin story for the heroine of the franchise, Lara Croft.

The title is set to be released sometime next year, probably around the holiday season.
