Crystal Dynamics, the developer of the upcoming Tomb Raider title, has confirmed that the game, which reboots the long-running franchise, will be followed by other adventures, practically confirming that a sequel is already planned.

The Tomb Raider series has been around for quite some time and saw quite a few reboots appear every few years, which changed different aspects of its protagonist, Lara Croft.

By far, the biggest restart will come out next year, in the form of the simply named Tomb Raider, which stars a younger and more inexperienced Lara who’s stuck on an island and must rely only on her limited survival skills to face its different dangers.

At the end of the game, she’ll be ready to cope with all sorts of challenges as part of new adventures, according to Crystal Dynamics’ Global Brand Manager, Karl Stewart.

"I have to be careful because I know exactly where she's going," he told VideoGamer when asked if more adventures awaited Lara after the new title. "You have to look at the future, you have to look at where... It's not just one game."

Stewart then basically confirms that more adventures await Lara in future games in the series.

"At the end of this game we want her to be that strong female character that is willing to go and seek out mysteries and seek out tombs," he continued. "She's going to be going to plenty of tombs in this game, but we're going to have somebody who wants to go on that adventure, who wants to be the person that she now is. That's the goal."

It’s no surprise that Crystal Dynamics and publisher Square Enix want to continue the Tomb Raider franchise even before releasing the new game, but it’s good to hear it straight from the studio.
