Just in case fans still had hopes of seeing this happen, confirmation is in that Angelina Jolie will not be in the much-anticipated “Tomb Raider” film. On the bright side, the franchise will get a reboot and it should be out in theaters in 2013.

Let the casting speculation officially begin.

In the meantime, The Hollywood Reporter has learned for a fact that GK has acquired the rights for the film and will start work on it as soon as possible, in the hope of nabbing a 2013 release spot.

“The heroine of one of the biggest video games from the 1990s is once again getting the movie treatment, this time from heavyweight producer Graham King and his GK Films,” THR says.

“GK Films has acquired the feature film rights to Tomb Raider and will reboot the action-adventure franchise aiming for a 2013 release for the first film. The new movie will be produced by King and Tim Headington,” says the same report.

Since doing the sequel “Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life” in 2003, Angelina Jolie was constantly in and out of the picture as the beloved heroine.

Now, it’s official that she won’t be reprising the part since GK may be going for an origin story for the reboot, which means the action will take place before the previous two films.

There is also the question of whether Jolie would have been interested in the part after so many years – if she is or ever was, she never expressed it in any way.

Talk for the sequel to the 2003 film did take place, with Jolie as the lead, but the project died at Warner Bros. before even making it out of the writing stage.

“Grey Rembert will oversee the project for GK Films, which was involved in Rango and has Hugo Cabret, directed by Martin Scorsese, coming out later this year,” THR says of the reboot.

On the same note, a recent report suggested that Olivia Wilde of “House M.D.” and “TRON: Legacy” was among the actresses considered for the leading part in the reboot.
