The new Tomb Raider is now available for Mac gamers via Steam for €49.99 ($67.76) featuring Steam online play. Tomb Raider: Survival Edition ROW can also be purchased for €57.99 ($78.55).

According to the description up on Steampowered.com, “Tomb Raider explores the intense and gritty origin story of Lara Croft and her ascent from a young woman to a hardened survivor.”

Despite its title, the game is not a remake of the original, but a “reboot” of the series that looks deeper into the past than any other Tomb Raider installment. The action takes place around the time Lara was still united with her parents, but loses them in a horrific plane accident.

“Armed only with raw instincts and the ability to push beyond the limits of human endurance, Lara must fight to unravel the dark history of a forgotten island to escape its relentless hold,” the publisher adds.

Players are encouraged to download the Turning Point trailer to see the beginning of Lara’s adventure.

Tomb Raider calls for Mac OS X 10.9.1 or later, 2 GHz Intel, 4 GB RAM, 14 GB HD Space, 512 MB VRAM, and one of the following video cards:

ATI Radeon HD 4670 NVIDIA GeForce GT 540M Intel HD Graphics 4000 Requires Steam and a Steam Account to play Intel HD4000 (with Intel i7 CPU or better)

The Survival Edition includes a 32-page mini art book (digital), 10 downloadable songs from the game’s soundtrack, a double sided map of the game’s mysterious island, Tomb Raider: The Beginning comic, and weapons from “Hitman: Absolution” for use in the game.

Tomb Raider is a tad cheaper on the Mac App Store, which is where you want to download it if you’re not interested in online play.
