Tomb Raider, the reboot of the Lara Croft series created by developer Crystal Dynamics and published by Square Enix, manages to keep its number one position in the United Kingdom video game chart for the week that ended on March 16.

The performance is impressive because the video game was under pressure from two huge releases, Starcraft 2: Heart of the Swarm and God of War: Ascension.

Tomb Raider focuses on the early days of Croft’s career and imagines her as a vulnerable being that evolves as the game progresses.

Second place was captured by God of War: Ascension, the new Kratos title created by the Santa Monica studios and published by Sony exclusively on the PlayStation 3, according to data from UKIE.

The last place on the podium was occupied by Starcraft 2: Heart of the Swarm, the PC-only real-time strategy title from Blizzard that pushes the story of the series forward while introducing a number of multiplayer-focused changes.

A third new release, Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 from City Interactive, is in fourth place for the week, while SimCity, which took second place during the previous seven-day period, has slid down three places to reach fifth.

After the slew of new launches, the old and reliable FIFA 13 is in sixth place, down just one position over its previous result, and Far Cry 3, the best game of 2012 for many reviewers, manages to gain one position.

Crysis 3, another shooter, shows that Crytek has managed to capture the imagination of players by standing in eight position and Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 ends the first-person shooter parade in ninth.

The last place in the United Kingdom top ten is occupied by the University Life expansion for The Sims 3.

The biggest drop is linked to Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, which has lost ten places in one week.
